Joanne Bland

Joanne Bland is co-founder and director of the National Voting Rights Museum in Selma, Alabama. As a child, Bland was an active participant in the Selma voting rights marches of 1965, including Bloody Sunday and Turnaround Tuesday; she was the youngest person jailed during any civil rights demonstration during that period. During the Bloody Sunday attempted march on March 7, 1965, Bland witnessed her fellow marchers being beaten by Selma police and Alabama State Troopers.
