Carolyn McKinstry

Carolyn McKinstry is a survivor of the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and best friend of Cynthia Wesley, one of the four little girls who were killed by the blast. McKinstry recalls her childhood in Birmingham during segregation, as well as the 1963 bombing that killed her friend and haunted her for the rest of her life. She describes all of these experiences in her memoir, While the World Watched: A Birmingham Bombing Survivor Comes of Age during the Civil Rights Movement.
